Ok I don't want you guys to think I'm a fraud since I don't have any pictures up here yet, besides my profile pic of a Child's Pyrex mug I picked up in a random barn sale. So to appease you for now I'm just going to post a link to my facebook Pyrex album. I moved at the end of December and haven't taken any good pictures for quite a while of new items (and there has been a lot) so I probably have close to double what you see here but I hope to take many pictures this weekend (especially close up pattern shots) so just bear with me for now.

It's official - in more ways than one.
I have two followers - I'm so excited! I know that is very lame but I am hoping to make this blog a great resource for other Pyrex fanatics and the more people I have to bounce ideas off of the better this blog will be.
One of the resources that I am most hoping to develop is a comprehensive official pattern listing. As a collector I have often found it difficult to determine pattern names, especially for obscure pieces. In order to develop this listing I am researching Pyrex advertising and have contacted the library at the Corning Museum of Glass.
The second resource I would like to develop is a product listing for each pattern - I'm hoping this will help those collectors out there that are interested in obtaining each piece of a specific pattern.
If there are other resources out there that you would like to see please let me know and I will do my best to develop these tools.

To buy or not to buy
Today I had the opportunity to buy a new in box hearts casserole - alas I did not. The piece was in great condition, the cradle all shiny and bright - the little Pyrex pamphlet was even there. The price was $60 which although I have not come across any "NIB" pieces seemed high and I unfortunately have a very bad association with this specific pattern. The shop also had a couple of dandelion (this is what I call them - sometimes referred to as fireworks I think) divided casseroles with cradle and the box - but since I already have two of these dishes I resisted the urge to buy them.
Another type of Pyrex that I seem to be coming across quite often are clear glass in silver holders. I bought a couple this weekend - both times at thrift shops and wonder whether this is something I should continue to collect - your thoughts on this are appreciated.
All in all I'm trying to only buy pieces that I don't currently have as I've amassed quite a few pieces and I am quickly running out of room for it all. That being said I also can't pass up a bargain so if I see it for the right price I'm likely to pick it up which might be good for other collectors as I'll likely sell my duplicates soon enough.
Well I have a lot more on my mind - but I also have quite a few pieces that I need to wash - so until next time.

Patterns I own as of 2/18/11
I am taking the names of these from other sites and or a Pyrex Reference book that I have. I am not 100% sure these are the correct names and I intend on verifying all of these names as part of my research for this blog. I'll get pictures of each of these patterns up as soon as possible.

My first time
So this is my very first blog. I really don't have a clue of what I am doing - I don't read blogs and I'm not sure if this should be a stream of consciousness or some planned out discussion of my innermost thoughts on thrift stores and of course Pyrex...I know you can't wait to read this. Well believe it or not but I think there are actually some people out there that might actually like to read this and I'm hoping to help out some of my fellow Pyrex fanatics.
So why did I decide to start this blog today - well after a day spent at several thrift shops, flea markets and estate sales I decided I'd head to a very popular Pyrex blog to see if they had some pictures of the patterns I picked up - but alas they still have not updated their blog since last summer! Getting sick of seeing the same old blog post from months ago - I decided it was time for me to start my own so here I am. I am hoping to make this an educational blog about Pyrex. I will do my best to hunt down information about the brand including pattern names, release dates and so on. I welcome any information you have, including corrections to information I may post.
With that being said I hope you enjoy this blog and happy hunting!
